I am so hacked off that I want to smash my machine and everything to do with
it? I have spent an absolute fortune on win xp, office suite etc etc etc and
the day that I can get it to work the way that it says it can, is the day
that I run naked down route 66 (not a pretty site by the way). I have tried
everything to connect my comp (host) to my sons comp (client) via a
crossover cable. we are both using xp home and I have tried every single
combination via the network connection wizard possible. I have a via vt6102
fast ethernet card installed and a 1394 net adaptor, I am on an adsl
512kbps connection. I have had this connection running in the past but only
with a network bridge, but whenever we disconnect I have had to run the
connection wizard to connect us. Now I cannot connect at all and my son is
getting annoyed (girlfriends, chat music etc etc ). Whenever I try to
connect I get a message saying error 2, what does it all mean and what can I
do to connect us?

Buy a $40-$100 DSL router and forget the crossover cable crap.
Use the router to setup a DHCP server and share the 512kbps ADSL connection
with up to 255 machines with minimal muss/fuss.
