I am trying to connect XP PRO SP 2 to a machone running 2000 PRO. The 2000
Pro machine sees the XP machine but I get bad path erroer when I try to
access. The XP machine does not even see the 2000 machine. I have tried
everything with no results. Any help would be appreciated I am pulling my
hair out and I don't have much left.

Any firewalls running on either computer? Have they been properly configured?
If not firewall problems, could be browser related. The Microsoft Browstat
program will show us what browsers (I'm not talking about Internet Explorer
here) you have in your domain / workgroup, at any time.

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window, by "browstat status". Make sure all computers list the same master
browser.

The browser requires anonymous access, so look at registry key
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa], value restrictanonymous.

The above articles refer to Windows 2000. Remember WinXP is NT V5.1, and Win2K
is NT V5.0.
Have you used the Registry Editor before? If not, it's a scary tool, but it's
pretty simple once you get used to it. Here are a couple articles that might

Just remember to backup the key (create a registry patch) for
[HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] before making any changes, if
appropriate.
If no help yet, provide ipconfig information for each computer, and we'll
diagnose the problem.
1) Start - Run - "cmd".
2) Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command window.
3) Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!.
4) Open file c:\ipconfig.txt from Notepad.
5) Copy and paste entire contents of the file into your next post.
6) Identify operating system (by name, version, and Service Pack level) with
each ipconfig listing.
