I posted a question last week, 10/21. Now I have updated the IBM laptop to a
Dell with XP Home. So now my network has a desktop, with the printers
attached, and a laptop, and the two computers connect through a cable modem
and a router. Both can access the internet without any trouble, but neither
computer can see the other now. I have tried every troubleshooter in XP and
have run the wizard to establish a small home network. Nothing works.
Diagnostics indicate all the hardware is working properly. The laptop has a
wireless adapter built in , but I am not using it, and wish to use a wired
connection since I already have all the cables in place. I have Zone Alarm
on the desktop, and have tried turning it off - it doesn't help. I also have
Norton Antivirus installed on both. Obviously there is some item I am
missing. I presumed that with both computers running XP that the setup would
be easy. I need advice. Thanks.

Is Norton Antivirus a standalone product, or part of Norton Internet Security?
Zone Alarm can cause problems, even when turned off. Un install, or configure
properly.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely:
