Office computer running XP Pro. Automatically updated last night with new
Windows Update - all computers restarted except the server. Went to locate a
network drive marked: Data (D) on 'Server' (G:) and it was there but w/o
access, said that the drive was disconnected. Restarted Server, restarted
work computer, tried to go back to Data (D) on 'Server' (G:) and it was gone.

I have since discovered that all of the information on said drive is
technically located on D: - no problem, I can access D: fine. But none of
the programs can locate the information because the label they are looking
for doesn't exist.

How do I get the label back so the programs recognize it?

If you know which update is involved, have you tried uninstalling it?

The uninstall routines for all of the updates is in the Windows folder.
There is a whole list of them.

Open the update's routine and run its uninstall exe file to remove the update.

Try remapping the Network Drive. Rename it the same as before and map it as
the same drive letter as before. Just make sure you right click and select
disconnect on the existing drive before you re-map it as the same name and
drive letter.

It sounds like you lost your drive mapping. All that should be needed is to
re-map the drive.
