I have set up a network from my own computer as host with the appropriate
Network CD copied and loaded to a laptop connected by wireless router
(successful) and to a desktop connected directly to the router which does not
accept the loading of the host computer. While my host shows the desktop, it
does not show on the second desktop as being part of the network. I only
want to share a printer. I was able to load the printer info directly on to
the second desktop, but it is listed as offline and cannot be put online.

Can anyone help? I don't know what other info to tell you?

thanks, so very much.

can you ping the computer connecting to the printer? if using net view \\remotepcname, what do you receive? if it is system error, this is permission issue; if it is 53, this is connection or name resolution issue. check this page for more details.

You may receive "System error 5 has occurred" and "Access is denied" when using net ... "System Error 53 has occurred" · "There are no entries in the list" ...

Thank you. I have done the tests you suggested and have found this.
On the "not accessible" computer, the Firewall has the "file and print
sharing" box checked on the exception list. On the "ipconfig/all" on both
machines the Node type is - unknown, IP routing is NOT enabled, subnet mask
matches. I also did the "net share" and the server is "started" and
"automatic". When in command prompt I entered, "net[view]\\remotepcname" and
got (after a few syntax problems, lol) "The system cannot find the path
specified.

I am assuming then this is a permission issue on the part of the not
acessible computer, but I can't figure out where I haven't gone to make the
proper connections. What am I missing?

Thanks so much for your help. This is most appreciated.

if you receive "The system cannot find the path
specified", this not permission issue. This is connection or name resolution issue.

OK. I have checked your web site and worked through the settings but still
not working. I am not getting a System Error # message. No 5, 51 or 53,
just the "system cannot find the path specified". Both my machine (the host)
and the other machine have different names, and we don't use a password to
access them. The "other" machine, when I go to command prompt and "ping" my
host computer, connects. I see the machine in my workgroup, but can't
connect.

I did the NSLookup (but now I am getting over my head) and the response was
server: 'name'
address: xx.xx.xxx.xxx

Non-authoratative answer:
server: 'domain name'
address: did not match above

Am I going in the right direction? Does this indicate a problem? I am not
technical enough to go further at this point. Any help is very greatly
appreciated. Thanks for your patience.

Does your host use Zone Alarm?? If so, I might have a suggestion

Thanks for the tip! I don't use Zone Alarm, but the "other" computer was
using F-Secure (provided by the cable company) and that need an exception
added. Works now! Thanks so very much!
