network load does not exceed 50%

Is there any option in XP which prevents the network to exceed 50%
network load (as shown in task manager)?

Even if a task would benefit from higher throughput my network
connection is limited to around 50%. I tried several adapters (WLAN,
Ethernet, through Router or direct via x-over cable) but no help.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

No. The only way to cut down your bandwidth usage is to kill programs
that are using the bandwidth.

@Lee: PLease read again. It is not that the bandwidth is too small. The
bandwidth is rather not fully used by the applications. That is the
problem.

Thanks for the MTU hint.

However, there are different MTU's depending on the network hardware
(ethernet vs. WLAN). What if the data is going via wlan to the router
which is connected to the other PC via 100 mbit wlan? Ethernet is said
to have MTU 1500, and WLAN 1492

Any help?`
