Network interuption of large PST files

Of 20 users of outlook, over the last 24 hours 5 have had
their PST files corrupted (or for some reason they will
not open) The 5 users with the problems have PST files
that are 800+ Meg in size. The corruption did not happen
all at once, a couple first than another 1 an hour later
and then the last 2.

It is obviously related to the size of their files as the
15 users who are fine, only have smaller PST files. Does
anyone know what could cause this - my thought is an error
on the ethernet card from the server or the switch, but if
that is the case - I do not understand why other
applications - such as database programmes etc. are not
effected?

Any ideas anyone?

Where are the PST files stored? Note - users should not be accessing them
from network drives - it isn't supported or recommended, precisely for this
reason (also performance lag).

The PST file sizes you mention aren't too big, really, but again, the
problem is most likely due to the fact that they aren't stored on the local
hard drive.

Do you have an Exchange server? With 20 users, it may be a good thing to
implement. Store everything in the Exchange mailboxes, not in PST files.
Plus, you can back everything up easily using online backup for Exchange....

Microsft documents in their KnowledgeBase that network-attached PST files
are not supported because, for one thing, they are subject to corruption if
the network connection is lost. 800 Mb is not too large for a PST, but I
can well believe a larger PST would be more susceptible to network outage
corruption.
