Hi all. I am using windows xp home edition. It is connected to network and i
need to input static ip to it. However i could not access the lan icon from
network connections. The network connections folder is empty. However when i
do a ipconfig via cmd it was assigned 169.x.x.x. Hence i believe it is set to
dhcp. I have ensure that network cable is plug in and is working fine. I have
also enable the network connections service. I tested this 3com etherlink nic
to another win xp pro pc and can work fine. What can i do so that i can
access the lan icon via network connections folder? Thanks in advance.

Here's a common reason for an empty Network Connections folder:

If that doesn't solve it, try this:
