Pete

I purchased another computer and hooked it up via a hub.
Both computers are Win XP and I ran the network wizard on
both computers. Both computers can access the web and e
mail but cant see each other and I cannot share the
printer with the second computer as the second computer
cannot find the main computer on the network. I have also
configured the printer to share. When I check the network
on each computer it only shows that computer. What am I
missing?

Hello,
Disable microsoft "firewalls"...
Are you using a firewall?

try to ping the other computer...
start->cmd-> "ping 192.168.1.X" or what the other computer's ip is..
if it "pings ok" rather than giving a "time out" message than the problem is
firewall..

try to "ping 127.0.0.1" if this gives an error so your problem is TCP /IP
settings of your computer..try to reinstall them

Best regards,

Hi Have the same problem. Posted the same message on this
thread "Networking the XP system from Hell ."

I can access the net but cant see either machines or
access the workgroup. Cannot ping other machine, but can
ping localhost. Netstat shows connection established
between the machines tho! No firewalls on either LAN
connections. NetBIOS is enabled. Computer Browser is
running. If I can access the net from the client machine
then obviously there should be no problem with the TCP/IP
stack or the hardware. The problem is there somewhere in
XP's convoluted network setup. BTW, both are SP1. Is that
a problem?

Anyone?

Good suggestions.

Also, for a machine to be listed in Network Neighborhood
(or whatever they are calling it these days), at least
one of the machines must be running the Computer Browser
service. Right-click on My Computer, select Manage,
expand Services and Applications, and click on Services.
Be sure the "Computer Browser" service is enabled and
running.

Also, since you probably don't have any type of name
service running (i.e. DNS), update the \windows\system32
\drivers\etc\hosts file on each computer with the names
and IP addresses of all the other computers on the
network.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Jack

hi
i have this problem in a "oneway" situation. i can access
my computer from my wife's machine, but i cannot access my
wife's from mine - i get a message that "not enough server
storage is available to process this command".

i suspect that the problem here is on my computer -
somewhere in the setup.
