Have a Winxp-pro computer networking thru Linksys router and accessing the
internet that was working fine until recently. Do not know if I had updated
winxp-pro, since it runs automatically, when the problem started. When I
first startup the other computer running winxp-home can be seen as well as a
winme computer. However as the day goes on I want to print thru the winme
computer and it will not see the networked winme printer. Then I check to
see if I can see the files on winme and behold now I can not, but I still
can see the winxp-home computer. If I restart my winxp pro computer then I
can again see the winme computer. Anyone know what is going on?

Sound like you have a problem similar to what my main XP Pro box has been
doing - periodically loosing the TCP/IP connections - can see some computers
but not access shared assets, not see the internet through the router, just
plain being a pain the rear. Reboot fixes it.

Found an article in current PC Magazine (21 Sep) by Machrone - he seemed to
have similar problems with one machine. He details a couple KB articles
(811259 and 299257) as being relevant (note: I cannot find the 299257 -
perhaps there's a typo i the mag?)
He also gives a Winsock fixing tool to use - see
www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html to download it. I just ran it,
everything's ok for now. Remains to be seen if it in fact fixed the
problem.

Your mileage may vary.

My internet is not affected maybe because I have DSL and stay connected
continusouly. Also noticed that I can stay connected with the Win98me
computer if I keep open windows explorer viewing the files on such. Or it
may be do to not having open my java streamer from the brokerage firm. Tried
using IPX protocol but still lost connection after watching the streamer for
a while. Wonder if there is any clue here.

Found on http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm a possible solution to
my problem which may solve others. Here are the steps given:
1. Click start button
2. Click "My Network Places"
3. Right-click and click on "Properties"
4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"
5. click on the "Authentication" tab
6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X"
7. Click "OK"
Hope this helps others.

Now the WinXpPro computer will not see either computer even if I restart. Do
have this computer no sharing anything. Other two computers do see each
other. Tried reversing the "enable network" with no change. Tried to ping
either computers thru DOS with no success. Still getting the internet thru
the LinkSys router. As far as I know nothing has changed or been downloaded
to make a change. Anyone know what is going on?
