Network connectivity

I was wondering if someone could help me diagnose and solve a problem that
just started occuring on two of my networked pcs.
We are running XP pro SP 2 they are part of domain with other computers
(server is running 2003 server) These 2 particular computers intermittently
lose network shares to the mapped drives and printers. When rebooted or
relogged on all is well again. These computers are used very frequently so a
timeout issue may not be the solution. the loss of connection happens at
varying time frequencies. I was leaning towards a security ptach upgrade but
then all my computers would behave the same, so I am a little perplexed. Any
help would be appreciated...TY

Tell us a little more about your network - details about physical layout /
segmentation, and what's connected, would be useful.
# What's different about these 2 computers? Are these the only XP Pro SP2
computers? The only XP computers? Different LAN segment? Different users?
# What error is observed when they lose shares? Do no other computers lose
shares at all?
# Any errors displayed on the server logs?
# What have you done to mitigate the problem? Swapped any hardware components?
Re installed any software or drivers? Swapped router ports? Swapped users?

There are a myriad of things I would try, if I were in your office. I can't do
that, but I'll point you towards some of my troubleshooting guides.

There are about 24 computers on my direct LAN 90% running XP pro - rest are
out in shop nt 4.0.. all are connected through switches and hubs. The two
computers in question are located on the same floor and on same switch. There
are two different users on these. I just checked the application event viewer
and I see EVENT ID 1054

Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network.
(The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ).
Group Policy processing aborted.

I checked the links and will look into that further....

Originally I thought I was losing connections through the switch somehow..
So I bought a gigaswitch and put my server and the the two stations strictly
on that switch uplink. Although the speed is great now I still lose
connection to other mapped shares that point to the server itself as well as
other printers on other networked computers. No software has been installed I
have not swapped users either

I appreciate your input and will look into the links you provided for
solutions

The error "...domain either does not exist..." is well known here. You have to
figure out why it's unique (?) to 2 computers though.
