Network Connections service does not start

Hi

I had to uninstall Backupexec remote agent from my Small Business 2000
server. Since the reboot I noticed that the "Network Connections" service do
not start up anymore. I can not stop nor restart any services on the server
either. If I try to reapply SP4 or install new MS patches, the machine does
not recognize my admin rights and fail.

What could have gone wrong?
Can someone help me?

Steve Komaromi

As always check Event Viewer for errors.

I have two unexpedted login error type: 3 during boot and 5 warnings in
"System Log" from RemoteAccess about RPC not being available. But the RPC
service starts during boot, although after boot I can not stop nor restart it.

There are some nesty errors in "Application Log" from MSExchange":

Check Event Viewer for errors. When you view the logged events in Event
Viewer (double-click them in the right-hand pane) in the upper right corner,
third button down is a copy to clipboard, then you can paste in the body of
a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

Also check Device Manager for error codes and or non-starting devices.

DNS Server has updated its own host (A) records. In order to insure that
its DS-integrated peer DNS servers are able to replicate with this server, an
attempt was made to update them with the new records through dynamic update.
An error was encountered during this update, the record data is the error
code.

If this DNS server does not have any DS-integrated peers, then this error
should be ignored.

If this DNS server's ActiveDirectory replication partners do not have the
correct IP address(es) for this server, they will be unable to replicate with
it.

To insure proper replication:
1) Find this server's ActiveDirectory replication partners that run the DNS
server.
2) Open DnsManager and connect in turn to each of the replication partners.
3) On each server, check the host (A record) registration for THIS server.
4) Delete any A records that do NOT correspond to IP addresses of this
server.
5) If there are no A records for this server, add at least one A record
corresponding to an address on this server, that the replication partner can
contact. (In other words, if there multiple IP addresses for this DNS
server, add at least one that is on the same network as the ActiveDirectory
DNS server you are updating.)
6) Note, that is not necessary to update EVERY replication partner. It is
only necessary that the records are fixed up on enough replication partners
so that every server that replicates with this server will receive (through
replication) the new data.

Description:
DNS Server has updated its own host (A) records. In order to insure that
its DS-integrated peer DNS servers are able to replicate with this server,
an
attempt was made to update them with the new records through dynamic update.
An error was encountered during this update, the record data is the error
code.

If this DNS server does not have any DS-integrated peers, then this error
should be ignored.

If this DNS server's ActiveDirectory replication partners do not have the
correct IP address(es) for this server, they will be unable to replicate
with

You might want to ask about the application log errors in an exchange group.
The perflib errors should go away once the services start.

The RPC service apeears to be running in Services, but the query returns an
error:

[SC] EnumQueryServicesStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

Any thoughts?

Ps: If RPC is not loaded that would explain why "Network Connections"
doesn't load.

Wait, I changed the call for sc using "RPCss" as service name. Here is the
return:
sc.exe query "RPCss"

SERVICE_NAME: RPCss
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
STATE : 4 RUNNING
(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0

It seams to be OK.
