When I open my network connections folder I'm unable to see my Ethernet
connection icon anymore. I can't tell if its disabled or engaged.

Be sure you are right-clicking the icon and looking at properties.

If you still can not see it, make absolutely sure that your computer is
entirely free of ALL virus, spyware, adware, and other malware. They are the
usual cause of this problem (and the sites owners belong in jail!)

Create a System Restore point (just in case).

Then get and use this util:
http://www.tacktech.com/pub/winsockfix/WinsockFix.zip
(it should unzip to a file named WinsockXPFix.exe that is 1,413,120 bytes in
size)

If it STILL doesn't work, then get and use this util:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4180.html

If it STILL doesn't work, go to the System icon in Control Panel, go into
Device Manager, and UNINSTALL your network cards listed there. Reboot,
Windows should again find them and reinstall them. (If not then use System
Restore to get them back).

Did one of those procedures help, and if so which one?

Thanks, I'll give it a try.
