Network connections (and TCPIP?) gone

Hi,

last time I launched WinXP (and all of the following boots), my network
connections were not there anymore. The "noetwork connections" folder is now
empty, and the network connection wizard from the control panel (as well as
the one from the NCgroup) do not work (the .cpl is here but does not start
anything). Also, ipconfig does not work (says I have to contact Microsoft).
It looks like the whole TPCIP layer is gone, for an unknown reason. I am
posting this question from an alternative OS.

Is there a way to reinstall it without reinstalling the whole system (do not
have time to do this with my thesis to finish for the Fall graduation...) ?
The restore system does not work : I can launch it and select a restore
point, then the PC restarts but after the reboot, it does tell me that it did
not replace any file and that the restore process failed. This happens with
all of the three restore points available, those that were automatically
created during the last month (what about those I created manually during the
months before ? it seems you cannot change the current month on the schedule).

Thanks in advance for your help

Check out http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;825826 - it should
help.

I met this problem once, caused by NIC loose. I re-pluged NIC and
saw "network connections" again.

Thanks for your anwer. UNfortunately, in my case, it is a notebook that I
have not moved for some time, so I wonder how the network card could get
loose. And even if I plug-in an additional PCMCIA wifi card, noithing happens.

Hi
you can:

1. replug your NIC
2. Check your NIC for any other casualty (burnt or damaged) so you can
replace it with any other
3.Check if the NIC driver is correctly installed.

Please note that open the Network Connection folder in Administrator
User.

Hi,

how would I do that on my laptop ?

BTW my network cards all appear in the device manager without showing any
issue.
