Network connection not being made

Im running Windows XP Pro SP2

My wireless router is not connecting with my machine. It keeps looking for
an address. During the time its trying to connect, a system error icon
appears and disappears rapidly. No Error Number is left.

Im at a loss, i dont know where to even start

Im am greatful for any help you can give me.

Most wireless routers that I see have additional "wired" ports, does yours? I
also know that Netgear wireless routers usually have the wireless signals
"turned off" right out of the box. You must connect it to a "wired" network
adapter in order to setup the wireless security, which then turns the wireless
signal on.
