1. Open XP's "Help and Support Center".
2. In the Search box type: Network Card , and hit enter.
3. Click on "Network adapters overview".

It's a card that installs like a video card or sound card that is
used to connect your computer to a network.

Also called a "Network Interface Card," or NIC.

A network is a bunch of computers that are connected together. In
a business, all of the computers on everyone's desk may be
connected together. In a home, the members of a family may have
their computers connected together.

Having a network allows you to share an internet connection among
computers, to share printers, and to share data.

Do you need a network card? If you have a network, you do; if you
don't have one, you don't.

Do you need a network? Only you can answer that. Assuming that
you're a home user, are there other computers in your home you
want to connect to, for any or all of the reasons enumerated
above?
