I recently had an issue with the XP system constantly dropping to the log in screen even though I was the only user. I used Spybot S&D and it has fixed the problem. Now, however, I am getting a network cable is unplugged error when it is plugged in. I have tested the cable on another system and it works fine. I have "unistalled" and re-installed the NIC and still no luck. I have used the recovery tool in Spybot to restore any of the DSO exploits thinking they might be necessary and mistakenly identified as spyware. I have also done a system recovery to a date before any of my problems started...still no luck

Try a new cable even though you tested that one on another machine,
and I agree with other poster - NIC could be bad or not seated
properly. Try moving it to another slot also.

Could also be the hub/switch/DSL modem but less likely.
