"Network Cable is Unpluged"

I also have the same problem. My computer is connected
to Comcast Broadband Cable through a Linksys BEFSR81
Cable Router and I have a admtek an983 based ethernet
adapter. I am using XP Home also. My local area
connection frequently disconnects and then reconnects,
sometimes giving me internet access and other times not.
My computer is the only computer connected to the router
and modem. In Network Connections it shows to devices,
(1) the Admtek An983 Based ethernet adapter and (2)WAN
Network driver. Could these devices be conflicting with
one another. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Miked, I discovered an article that may help. If solved
my problem. You need to uncheck the power management box
for your network adapter. This link explained the
