Ok I have 2 computers...a slow Dell with lots of important business files,
and a homebuilt gaming machine. I used to have a network and would use it
mainly to print from the homebuilt to the printer on the Dell and everything
was dandy. I reloaded the homebuilt and have tried everything I can think of
to get the network back to normal. I tried setting up a VPN (i think thats
what i want), but the homebuilt can't connect (due to an error 800), the Dell
is oblivious that its on a network, the homebuilt doesn't have the right
privaleges to access the workgroup computers, and I finally tried pinging
each comp from the other, but no reply. I have opened many many (many)
tutorials, troubleshooters, etc such as this one and have implemented the
suggested remedies, but still nothing. one solution I haven't figured out is
that a certain port needs to be opened but I have no idea how to do that.
The computers are connected by a linksys router. Both computers have the
neccessary software for internet/networking and file/printer sharing is
turned on. As of now, I'm transfering files between computers with Gmail
accounts, but that gets tedious. Any suggestions would be most appreciated
