Network Access Permission Registry Key

Is there a specific key in the Registry for the Computer Browser or other key
that can be modified to allow access to My Network Places?

As a consultant, I see the Network Access Permission Error a lot, and can
usually figure it out, but I have one that just won't free up and doesn't
work in Safe Mode either.

I have read many posts in this NG without success.

There are two settings that I know of, that will prevent the browser from
displaying a computer in My Network Places.
# The Hidden setting.

The problem isn't that it doesn't show up, it does in other Workgroup
computer's My Network Places.

The problem is that when she attempts to access MNP she receives the lovely
and familiar error "Workgroup Name is not accessible. You may not have
permission to use this network resource."

I will check RestrictAnonymous and LanManServer parameters, but since it is
up and accessible over the network, probably not the issue.

Another interesting thing, if I take the problem computer off the network,
she can click the Show Workgroup Computers button and get a window titled
Workgroup Name that is empty with no error.

Ken,

The last observation could apply, depending upon which computer is the master
browser.

I'm a little confused here. Are you asking for how to make a setting that will
prevent something from being accessed / seen? Or why there may be a problem,
and how to fix the problem?

If the latter, one of the most common causes of this problem would be a
misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security component.
There are several other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your
problem. Read this article with an open mind.
