WindowsXP Net Wizard does not recognize NIC#2 unless it is attached to a network or broadband connection, according to the HPH gurus. When I use the netsetup.exe from winXPon the Win98 PC I endup with the same result: The WinXPwizard telling me that it can not complete the mission, because it can NOT find the hardware in PCwin98. I have Pinged both cards and NO problems registered with either card. I have searched for a netsetup.exe for win98 to no avail. Any suggestions?

I've seen XP's Network Wizard fail to find an installed and working
NIC, too, Marten. I think it's due to an incorrectly written driver
program for the NIC which doesn't respond properly when the Wizard
queries it.

Fortunately, the Wizard has no magic powers, and there's no need to
run it. You can make the necessary network settings manually on
Win98. Go to Control Panel | Network and:

1. Specify the computer name and workgroup name.
2. Install these network components if they're not already present:
a. Client for Microsoft Networks
b. TCP/IP
c. File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks\
3. Configure the local area network connection to obtain an IP
address automatically.
