When I try and enable Interent Connection Sharing I get
an error message telling me "The dependency service or
group failed to start". I went in to Add/Remove Windows
components to re-install ICS but when i click on the
Add/Remove Windows Components button I get this error
message "Setup was unable to open information file
netoc.inf The specific error code is 0x2 at line
2011806598."

HELP!

I'd like to try to resurrect this question, because after
clearing the msblast.exe worm from my system, I am
getting the same netoc.inf error message, with a specific
error code of 0x2 at line 2011777033. I am also getting
numerous Zone Alarm requests to open Outlook.exe, and in
task manager, 16 or 17 outlook.exe instances open. Now I
am getting a message that the mail server is unavailable
& I can't send and receive. I checked all the settings
in Outlook, tools, accounts and they're right (ISP is
Pacbell & I have DSL).

Judy, you need to update your AV software and re-scan your system. The
Outlook behavior sounds suspiciously like a virus. Possibly a new variant.

Check if file netoc.inf exists in folder C:\WINDOWS\inf. If not, try
to copy it from folder C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. Last patch
(Security Bulletin MS03-026) prevents the virus but, in my machine,
caused this problem. Well, I think.
