Scenario:
Setting up an XPE Client for mass deployment. Prepare the runtime image,
sysprep/fbreseal, and then clone or deploy to X number of targets using
remote boot. is there a way/ and how is it done to generate specific unique
netbios names for the clients? I Have seen a scripting process in previous
versions of windows in a NT Domain, but this one I am curious about... I am
sure this one would be easy for you

Thanks,

JC,

Check our System Cloning Tool component.
If you have the cloning phase it will generate unique SID and device name.

Yes but this is not a specific name. It is randomly generated. There
are no tools included with XPe to give you control over this function.

Bob,

A specific name you don't have to generate. You just set it (in System Identification section of PC (HAL) component).
However, if you are talking about a particular pattern used to generate unique names after cloning. Then no, there is no such tools
in TD.

But I don't think it would be helpful to include such tools. Different customers have different requirements for the device name
depending on the device usage.
For instance, I talked to a customer who wanted to assign the machine name per floor on which device was going to be located.

In any case, it is always doable to come up with a simple (depends on the algorithm used to assign the names) script that generates
and changes the names.
