I am preparing to upgrade from Win98 to XP and see that
the NetBEUI protocol is not supported. Is this anything I
need to be concerned with considering I am not networked
to any other computers and use a PCMCIA card to connect to
a Cisco Router for DSL?

It is an advantage, NetBEUI is not secure.

Jay:

If you are using DSL then the *only* protocol that is needed is TCP/IP.

If you do get another computer TCP/IP is still the only protocol needed. However, I would
suggest getting a Cable/DSL Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41.

I would do a clean install........ for peace of mind. I
tried upgrading from Win98SE to XP Pro.... nightmare.

A clean install is where you remove all old partitions and let the new
Windows XP installer install the Windows as if the hard drive was brand new
and empty.

A clean installation has to do with removing what's on the drive
beofre installation. It's installing on an empty drive, rather
than over a previous operating system.

It has nothing to do with removing partitions. In fact, there's
never any reason to remove partitions unless you also want to
change the existing partition structure.
