The .NET Framework is a software framework that can be used when writing
programs that will run on Windows. It is not part of the operating system.
If you have applications that are using versions of the .NET Framework (and
the different versions - 1.0, 2.0, etc. - are separate entities, not
versions of the same Framework), you will want the updates.
