Nesting Sheets

Is it possible with Excel to "nest" sheets, a bit like
Explorer Folder tree, so that subsequesnt sheets only
become visible if the "parent" sheet is selected.

Constructing a workbook with a large number of sheets,
some of which are irrelevant if that area of the workbook
is not selected and could therefore hide temporarily
behind the "parent", "grandparent"sheet.

Ideally Approx 5(grandparent sheets) dividing to approx
80 "parent sheets" each with a monthly record(12
subsheets).

Suggestions and help appreciated.

Paul,

One possible solution would be to have an event macro, activated
automatically when a parent sheet is selected, unhide its child sheets (and
hide the children of the prior selected parent ). You wouldn't see the
child sheets, except for the chosen parent.

Let me suggest that you consolidate your monthly sheets within each group,
using a column to identify the month. You'll find Excel's analysis tools
available (subtotals, pivot tables, sorting, etc). Separate sheets
precludes a lot of that very stuff for which Excel is ultimately used.
Autofilters can easily show only the month of any interest at any time. The
consolidation is just an exercise in copy/paste, and it's done with.

Or maybe even consolidate the entire thing, using a column to identify the
parent group also. This may also open up a lot of Excel toos for you.

I strongly recommend consideration of this.
