Hi there,

My problem is that i'm having trouble installing internet
explorer 6 service pack. The support pages tells me to
solve this by editing the registry. But it requires me to
have a windows XP cd ready. The thing is, is that I have
windows XP Home edition through buying my pc and thus i
dont have the cd as it came with my pc. All I have is my
master cd and a boot disk.

Can anyone tell me whether my master cd or boot disk will
suffice? I dont wish to purchase xp home as i have
already got it, but i need it to solve my registry
settings.

Thanks in advance, Lisa

It would be helpful if you told us what manufacturer your bought your PC
from and what is the model.
If it was a reputable manufacturer the "master cd" is mostly likely the CD
with the OS on it. Give it a try if it doesn't work you are no worse off
than you are now.

You may not need the CD if you have the I386 folder on your computer.
Editing the registry shouldn't cause you to need the XP disc but you may
need it to install the IE.

You could create a Restore point, then edit the registry. If things get
screwed up, you should be able to 'go back' using the restore point.

I currently have problems with IE6 in which i think is
corrupted. So i decided to download the IE 6 service pack
to see if it would help. Whilst downloading, it produces
an error message stating that the download could not be
downloaded as the 'windows logo testing' is not familiar
with the download and can only download if it is a real
windows download! (I was suprised that it didn't
recognise the download coming from the windows update
site)

So I searched the support pages and went into the command
screen which prompted for the original XP cd. The thing
is, I don't want to mess up my computer My computer is a
packard bell IX 9085 pentium 4 2.8.

Hi,

To corrrect the Logo Error, run this edit:

Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

After running this edit, rename the CatRoot2 folder (Windows\CatRoot2) and
then go to Start/Run and enter %SystemRoot%\Inf.

Locate the ie.inf file. Right click it and select Install.

Or...

Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"
