hi,
yesterday i installed the files that were downloaded automatically from
windows update service and i restarted my laptop (windows vista premium)...
the huge problem is that after i restarted it and logged on, the destkop was
black and nothing appeared on it, just blackness...and the only thing that
opened automatically was my documents...the wierd thing about it is that from
my documents which opened automatically i can work on my laptop as if nothing
is wrong with it, i can access all my programs including the internet...
i tried system restore but i guess it failed because even after i did it the
desktop was still BLACK and my documents opened automatically!
so any helpS:???
thanks!

Choose the option to Notify you when updates are ready to be downloaded!
And don't download hardware drivers from MS updates.
Go to the manufacturer's website for them.

i already choose what to install after downloading automatically...but how
was i supposed to know that a security update might cause such a problem...
and i removed the installed updates and restarted my laptop, but still the
problem did persist!!!!
so any more ideas that might help:S?!

You can try using an earlier restore point. There is an option on the
screen to show more restore points. What happens if you go into Task
Manager and start another explorer.exe in the new task in applications?

OMG...john barnes...you are a genious by mistake:P:P....i started another
explorer.exe althu a one was already runnin, and it freakin
worked....everythin is back to normal....
thanks big time john....but now how shall i know that an update could be
harmfull...i mean they are security updates so why should they cause such a
problem???

Not sure what you mean by mistake. I did say start 'another' which means in
addition to the current one. :-) There is no real way to tell if YOU will
have a problem. If you download and don't install, then watch the group to
see if others are having a problem with a particular update, you just don't
install that one. If it is peculiar to your particular setup (hardware and
software combination) then you have no way to tell and will have to
uninstall or system restore.

it could be that this screwed up your profile .

could you create a new user on your pc & se if they get the same issue ?

yea i srota over reacted when this temporary fix helped me...but after that i
scanned my laptop for viruses (this is after i uninstalled the updates)....a
dangerous virus was found and eliminated, i restared my laptop and everything
was back to normal..
then i reinstalled the updates and the problem didn't happen again...so i
guess it is a virus issue! find the virus n you will fix your problem..
oh, i used norto360, so use it too if you can!

A similar problem to what?
