I have an older HP, motherboard was replaced by service co (since gone)
with a Trigem Cognac 3 board. need motherboard part number to find out
about possible jumper problem inhibiting processor from 1G down to
750Mhz. I need model number and can't see boot screen. I get a blue
"HP" screen" directly to windows loading screen. Have tried pausing,
nothing shows. I've opened it up and can't see any model numbers
without tearing it down. Any suggestions on how to get this model
number??? thanx

You might try something like Belarc Advisor (FREE)
and see if that gives you any information that helps with
the problem. This is a small portion of what it returns
about my system:

Hp in that class is Probly an asus A7v-vm. Except that narrows it down
to 4, not 1.

You can get the manual for asus a7v, but not the a7v-vm.

Press either F1 or F2 to enter BIOS setup then you can disable the HP
splash screen, hopefully you will be able see the info you seek.

Press DEL or the key to get into the BIOS and go to the setting to turn off
the HP splash screen, exist the BIOS and save the settings, then reboot -
you'll see the white writing on black screen with the computer information.
I don't know if that gives you the info you want though.

Try something like Belarc Advisor - that gives you info about your installed
programs (including CD keys and the like) and also info about the hardware
(which might include the model of your m/board).

Yes it does.

On my system Belarc reports the model and serial no of the m/board.

Thank you for your help, i had tried that first, and it just tells the
manufacturer. Thanx again

Many BIOS' mask their POST data with OEM splash screens. You
can disable that by using BIOS setup. I would use a hardware/software
inventory tool to find out the specifics of your board. Download an app
called Belarc Advisor.

thanks..that's probably what it was, but it is a Trigem Cognac now :(

You don't need the part number. I figured out your problem (I think)

Does that p3 of yours have a 133 bus? THe cognac accepts celeron 1.1
Ghz, and Some p3 1ghz.

If you have a 100 Bus,

10X100 =1ghz

but if you have a 133 bus

7.5*133 = 1ghz

But, the cognac doesn't support 133 bus. THerefore

7.5*100 = 750mhz
