I'm probably walking into a bee's nest tomm.....I guess. Here's the scenario:

I get along great fixing and repairing computers...Ok!! I've been getting
around in most versions of windows for years. BUT actually knowing how to
network 10-12 computers in a office, I've never tried.

The problem is my friend knows nothing about computers other than he log's
into the office XP computer (with admin rights) and does his work...email,
office and etc.

What should I do first when I get there to help him?? He said he can't
log-in to do his work and wants me to help him.

1) goto each computer and write down all ip's (ipconfig /all )

2) change all the accounts other than the admin account or chg it also.

I Sure would like some help along these lines!!!

With 10-12 computers they are probably using a server and a domain. If
you don't know anything about servers, you shouldn't mess with this. If
your friend's company has an IT guy, they should call him. If they
don't, they need to call a professional who has experience with
servers. I'm not saying this to hurt your feelings but if you don't
know anything about domains and/or networking you can easily do a lot
more harm than good.

I fully agree with Malke's comments. You would probably be able
to get the show going but without solid experience there is a high
probability that something will go wrong either now or later on.
I am thinking of data loss, hacking, inappropriate permission
structure, poor or non-existent backup process etc. Remember
that every mistake you make will be multiplied by 12. What will
you tell the manager if you bring the whole show down and
everyone sits around thumb-twiddling for a day, watching your
every move while you desperately try to patch things up?
