Dave,
first,thanks for the reply.
what i am saying is that in football you can not have a 1/2 win.
my formula takes all the games in this case (3) 1 win 1 loss and 1 ti
and that totals 3.
my formula then takes the wins and divides it by the total number o
games, that being 3 and then divides it. so 3(games)/1 (win)= .333
you would get the same % if it was 1 win and 2 losses.
if you were say 2-0-1, you would not be 1.00%, but .667 %, (3/2), bu
in reality though you are .750 %.
you are correct in saying its a 1/2 win or loss.
and yes i am adding the tie to the number of games played.
the thing i am trying to do is figure out a way to add that 1/
win(.083) to make it come out to .416 %
you need to give some sort of credit to the .083 (1/2 win) add that t
the .333, and have that become .416.
i hope that helps.

Thank

I'm still confused about what your algorithm should be.

But if you look at the last time the NFL had ties (USA Football???), you can see
that both Pittsburgh and Atlanta each had a tie.

Pitts: 10-5-1
Atl: 9-6-1

Under your scenario, what would the percentages be for each?

Using my suggestion (wins+.5*ties)/totalgames give:

(10+.5*1)/16 = 0.65625 (or .656 rounded)
(9+.5*1).16 = 0.59375 (or .594 rounded)

And if you look at NFL.com:
http://www.nfl.com/standings/2002/regular

You'll see that matches.

=======
I didn't mean to say a tie was the same as half a win and half a loss--but when
determining the percentage, it's treated that way.

If a team goes 0-0-16, it seems reasonable that they should be treated a .500
team.
