I know - I'm cross-posting but it'll save me asking these two groups the
exact same question.

I'm soliciting opinions on MS Digital Editing Suite. Good/bad/indifferent?

Good/bad/indifferent?

Which product are you talking about here? Microsoft Digital Image Pro?
I've heard much praise for DIP9, although I have yet to use it myself.

It's a MS digital photo editing suite. I was hoping some of our gurus around
here already had it or could provide me some insight on whether to get it or
not. (I can get it for a TERRIFIC price.)

Digital Image Pro 9 is an excellent image editing
program. It includes many new tools, 50 new filters
(illusions)...and it handles resources better than
any previous version.

If you're interested...here's a link to a review I wrote
for Digital Image Suite 9:

Disable your virus scanner during the install. If you
have an HP OfficeJet....disable it also...(this is
addressed in a readme on disk one).

I followed the links that john gave and it looks ok. I had ms picture it
and wasn't really impressed. I got it for $10 after the rebate and wound up
with a $35 rebate on a camera I'd already bought so I was up $25 for buying
it. I gave it to my sister in law.

I'm a big fan of photoimpact from www.ulead.com it's a whole lot of
capability for under $100. I really like their products across the board.
I use their smart saver pro all the time for batch processing.

what are you looking to do with an image editing program?

I already use Photoshop Elements 2 and I love it but I can get DIP9 for a
phenomenal price.

Then get it, you just may like it.

I have PS7 and it's very hard for me. I find myself using it to apply some
"filters" and plug-ins, saving it and then re-opening it in PI8. I must be
"learning disabled". ;-)

I find it a dog of a program. If you have only used PS then you are
probably love it. For those trying to pick it up - forget it.

Ulead PhotoImpact or Serif programs beat them all.

IMO,

PS if far ahead of all other graphic imaging programs in many areas. The
creme de la creme for professionals. Even with that being true, probably
95 percent of computer users, especially those who want to touch up
their digital images or similar work, it is major overkill. For me, it
is a necessity, but for ONE feature - it shows me the effect dot gain
has on an image.

I think the reason ulead's photoimpact is so easy for most people is because
it was always a windows program. it seems that the thing that makes ps and
flash difficult, at least for me, is how "foreign" it feels. it must be an
apple thing.

I agree totally. it's definitely the top of the line, so much so that I get
altitude sickness. I guess I just need to get some books. I bet if I got a
ps "visually" and removed the other software from my computer I'd have no
choice but to figure it out quick.
