In previous versions of Outlook, when you received an email a window popped
up to notify you, and didn't go away until you clicked it.

Now in Outlook 2003 it stays there for a very short time and disappears,
leaving only a tiny envelope next to the clock at the bottom, so if you
weren't looking at the time, you missed it.

How do you make that pop-up new mail window stay there until you acknowledge
it?

Thanks,
Mich

you can create the same type of rule as you used in older versions - look in
tools, rules and alerts

In OL2000 I use:
Notify me when new messages arrive
On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Preferences tab, and then click E-Mail Options.
Select or clear the Display a notification message when new mail arrives
check box.
Note You can also play a sound or change the mouse cursor when messages
arrive. On the Tools menu, click Options; click Preferences, click E-Mail
Options, click Advanced E-Mail Options, and then under When new items
arrive, select the options you want.

This is for one of our users in another office using OL2003, which I don't
have here so can't try it out.
Are the instructions the same, and do they let him choose how long the
notification stays there?

Could someone please paste from the OL2003 help menu so I can send it to
him?
Thanks,
Mich

In Rules, choose start with a blank rule, check when they arrive and set the
conditions or leave it blank to apply to all. As the action, choose display
a specific message in the new alert window. This notification will stay up
until you close it and list all new mail that arrived and you can choose
which ones to read or dismiss it if you don't want to read them now.

Robert,

Just subscribed to your newletter, thanks for mentioning it in this thread.

I just resolved a problem with not getting a sound for new incoming mail by
following two related suggestions, one dealing with sounds in control pannel
and the other within Outlook itself that was so hidden in my opionion. I
noticed that these solutions work only with the default account as noted. Is
there a way for sounds and/or visual notifications for new incoming mail to
work with non-default accounts, such as with my hotmail accounts?
