I have had the misfortune of having to sell my new Toshiba M205-S810 tablet PC. I have as yet been unable to find information on the process by which one informs Microsoft of a change of ownership. Is anyone familiar with this policy? I am basically looking for an address or phone number so that I may contact Microsoft to change their registration information

Thanks

It is possible to get the registration changed but there is a fee for this
(I think around $75 or so). Now before proceeding further, you say you sold
your machine. Did you sell it complete with the Windows Operating system
disks? If not did you remove the windows operating system from the machine
*before* you handed it over to the new owner?

Greetings --

John, a TabletPC would have to have had an OEM installation of the
OS. The OP will need to pass along to the buyer any installation
media and documentation along with the computer.

Yes, the OS went with the machine. As Bruce mentioned, there were no OS disks as Toshiba only includes a general "restore" disk and puts the WinXP-Tablet Prod Key on the bottom of the machine. I simply need to transfer the license now the the unit has traded hands. Toshiba's transfer is done via a simple letter. I need to know Microsoft's procedure

Thanks in advance

When he activates it. He may need to call Microsoft and tell them the
unit was sold to him. After 120 days it won’t matter.

Did you ever register it with Microsoft? Let me explain. There are two
options. The first is Activation whereby an inventory of your hardware is
taken by the activation application and then transmitted, via the internet
in the form of a code to Microsoft. The second is actual registration of the
product whereby you physically give Microsoft your name and address and the
product key of your copy of XP.
Now as you only had a Recovery Disk it would be an OEM copy rather than a
retail copy and, as such, would be registered to Toshiba.
If, therefore, you simply Activate the software then you do not need to do
anything else. However, i am only familiar with the retail packaging rather
than OEM. As i said, OEM copies are simply 'imaged' from one machine to
another and therefore would be registered to the original supplier rather
than the customer.
