Hi. This is my first time posting to this NG. I visited my accountant today
and he recomended me to get Microsoft Excel so that I can stay more
organized and present my tax figures easier. I dont know a thing about
excel. I have been doing things the old fashion way. I use COrel Word
perfect to do documents and make my own graphs and log info to that. But
thats it.
I went to the web site and I beleive Excel 2003 costs about $200. to upgrade
is $109 or so. Is there a cheaper way to get this program or an alternative.
Please, is there anyone who can also tell me why excel is go good, what it
can do, etc. anything. Is it easy for a novice as myself.
Thanks a bunch

Maybe you should forget about Excel for now, investigate Quicken and similar
packages appropriately suited to your tasks, and consider finding a new
accountant.

Take a look at OpenOffice.org. The spreadsheet program within that
should meet your needs - and it is free, runs on nearly every operating
system. It is still in development, so don't expect Excel.

It seems to me that you don't need Excel. You just want organised data, and
whilst Excel will do that, it does so much more besides that you don't seem
to need, so $203 is excessive.

Check out Open Office which is a freebie, and has many of the features that
Excel supports.
