need help

after some of my reg files were deleted all my desktop
icons would ask which program to run it with. I picked
explorer. When I fixed the reg files and I am able to
run exe. files, all my desktop icons still try to run the
exe. it explorer. How can I fix this to where all I have
to do is click on my icons again.

You can try re-creating the shortcuts and see if that works. Use My
Computer or Windows Explorer and go to the program directory to hunt down
the executable file for that program. Right click on the program file and
select Send To, Desktop (Create Shortcut). If that doesn't work, you will
likely have to reinstall the programs to repair the problem.

This is a good example of why you shouldn't be messing with the registry
unless you know what you are doing. You can create some big problems for
yourself that way.

It's also a good idea, that if you are going to mess with the registry, that
you make a backup copy before doing so.
