Hi.

I'm having problems with installing a USB device on my windows xp.

I am installing a HP psc 2110 printer-scanner-copier and the software
install all goes ok. But at the point where windows needs to detect the
device when attaching the USB cable, I always get the following error:

There was a problem installing this hardware.
An error occurred during the installation of the device.
The specified port is unknown.

This error comes up everytime I detach and reattach the USB cable.

I doubt that the problem is with the printer. It looks to me that windows xp
is just having trouble working with Plug 'n Play and the USB port.

My PC is a P4, 1.8 ghz.
My OS is Windows XP Pro, sp 1, english.
My system board is a WT70-EC. There are two standard USB ports.I tried them
both, and tried 2 different cables...

Can someone help me out here ?!

Thanx.

Have you tried rebooting with it already connected to see if XP recognizes
it that way? It's not by the book, but since your having trouble installing
it's worth a try. Also, how old is your 2110 all-in-one? According to hp's
site, the latest software/drivers are dated 5/29/03.

Good luck,[/QUOTE]

Have you rebooted between installing the software and plugging in? That
sometimes is what is needed - it is not until the next boot that PnP can
correctly find things. that said, HP USB installs can be pigs.
