Need help with importing

My OS just had to be reformatted and downloaded again so I had to reinstall
MS Office. The tech that did this for me saved my old Outlook email messages
and contacts in a file. I am trying to import this file back into my new
Outlook but the import and export choice is greyed out. Any suggestions or
help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
 
What kind of file is this - .PST file? If so, don't use Import, but just
open the file with Outlook.
