I notice lately that sometimes when I install an application, it
installs fine, but the app will not execute - instead it shows a
window that seems to say that some argument(s) is needed. Several
argument choices are always listed, but none work. Besides when I
install the same app on a second machine, this does not happen. Ergo
- I assume something is different on the failing machine. Maybe in XP
itself. Maybe some support program is missing? A .msi program?

Anyone?

What application is this? Does this happen with multiple programs?

We've no idea since you didn't provide any clues. You might want to get in
touch with the application developer.

The D-Link has a CD for things such as a parallel printer. Anyway, I
just discovered that the error also happens for the demo version of
PQMAGIC V8.0 I downloaded yesterday. That installed okay also, but
when I try to execute it (pmagic.exe), I still get an error window.
The error window says in part:

Error

X

/ARG=<filename> READ ADDITIONAL ARGUMENTS FROM A FILE
/CAS COPY ALL SECTORS WITHIN PARTITIONS
/CBS CHECK FOR BAD SECTORS

and
so
