Hi Folks,

We're almost 18 months into the migration of our NT4 estate to W2K
Active Directory, and the migration of the largest user community (our
headquarters) is coming up in a couple of months time.

I'd like to throw together a basic "idiots guide" presentation and
handout with a brief overview of what active directory is and the
implications to them of the rollout.

The target audience is not at all technical, and being a "techie" I've
sometimes been accused of making the eyes of the audience glaze over .
LOL!

Anyway can anyone recommend an existing presentation or whitepaper I
can use as ..erm.. creative inspiration? :) I'd like to tailor a
presentation and handout towards the specific needs of our enterprise,
but do not want to reinvent the wheel as it were.

I've read through the book "Active Directory for Dummies" but I found
this was geared more towards AD administrators rather than the user
community.

Can anyone recommend any other sources - white papers, public domain
presentations etc I can try?

Best Wishes,

Well, you could just make it simple by explaining that...

Active Directory is just an ACCOUNTS database use to hold the
User accounts, computer accounts, groups to make PERMISSIONS
easier to assign and control, and Organization Units making it easier
to DELEGATE authority and link COMMON group policy for
managing the machines and users more efficiently.

That is pretty much it from the NON-technical point of view.

Unless you want to explain that "database" just means an (efficient)
place to STORE all this.

Or that Group Policy just lets the administrator enable features that
benefit users, disable those features that might compromise security,
or to PROJECT software to the machines or users without having
to visit each machine to do the installs.

Everything else is just details -- technical details.

Or you might try the "shadow copy" or "AD" explanations in the
Microsoft TV commercials: It will save the business a lot of
money.

(Of course you have to actually be able to explain how that will
happen.) <GRIN>

Oh, yet -- if you just want a bunch of ideas for the slide show,
try this search at GOOGLE:

[ site:microsoft.com "Active Directory" 2000 filetype:ppt ]

You might also include

[ "non-technical" | "idiots guide" | "business advantages" ]

...in that search. (All of those would be 10 words which was the
Google max last time I checked.)
