How can I re-install or repair MS Backup for XP? I backed
up several files before changing out my CPU/MB/Mem.
Ultimately had to do a clean XP installation onto a
reformatted hard drive, but Backup did not install with
XP. Backup was there before - I guess due to an upgrade
from WinMe. Amd my 3rd-party manual for XP referrs to it
like it should be loaded by default. There is no option
to install Backup from WinXP Upgrade CD. I have
reinstalled XP several time and Backup has not shown up
with the reinstallation. Even tried to instll it from the
WineME CD, but could never make it run.

Any advice that would get my data back appreciated.

Note that XP uses a different backup application than ME. If you created
your backup with ME, the backup file is not readable in XP.

Glad I could help. The MS knowledge base can be daunting, but once you get
familiar with it, it can be great.
