I need to do a repair install to replace some files that went missing on my computer. some dll's got deleted somehow. anyway, i can't get my cd to come up with but two options. 1)restore windows (which will format the hard drive) and boot to command prompt (which won't let me do anything basically except what is on the cd; it won't let me access the hard drive.) can anyone help me? I'm a composer, and the only copies i have of my notation software and my scores that i've written are on that computer, and i can't get to it to back it up!!! help!

If you followed the instructions and you still cannot get a repair console
then I would suspect that you have a damaged CD.

From the previous post instructions....you said you had read and followed
them...if you had you would have the six disc boot set that would fix your
problem...

now that i've finally gotten the recovery console up, how do i replace the winlogon file, and the msgina.dll file?

if you want to do a repair install, then you do not want to be in recovery
console. and you do not need to use the 6 floppy to boot your computer if
your computer boots from CD. place your CD in your computer and boot it up.
you will be prompted to ht any key to boot from CD(as you have likely done
if your are in recovery console) but instead of hitting "r" hit enter to
install it. then f8 and after that you will be asked if you want to repair
or do fresh install.
