I have a desktop shortcut to a webpage that is dead. Nothing happens when it
is clicked on, and when I right click on it-the only options are Print or
Send To, neither of which do anything. I cannot drag it to my trash or to a
folder. It is an annoyance! Thanks in advance for any tips or tricks!

Have you tried using the delete button? Click once on the desktop icon;
Now press delete button on/from your keyboard.

Hi Celtica98

have a look on Download.com and get an cleanup tool, this should then delete
any orphaned desktop icons

I use WinCleaner which I find useful

Hey all...
I'm having the same problem with a file on my desktop. The original .doc
file is in a folder. This file was created on my desktop (I didn't put it
there) and it has NO file extention. It won't let me delete it... it won't
let me add the .doc extention... (won't let me add any extention)... won't
let me move it...I just receive the "Cannot read from the source file or
disk". I've done a google search on "orphaned file", "no file extention",
etc. and I'm not getting any help. I'm sure that others have experienced
this.

Any help or suggestions... please
Shewah

Try from CMd :
Click Start >Run
Type cmd > Hit Enter
Type "cd %userprofile%\Desktop" (Without quotes) > Hit Enter
Type (del "<your file name>.lnk") (WIthout ()) > Hit Enter

Try Unlocker :
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

If Unlocker item is not added to your shortcuts context menu then use
the Unlocker assistant and try to delete the file.
