Got a new HP Photosmart c6180 All In One printer, copier, fax, thing. After
installing it keep getting the following pop up message:
" Internet Sharing Configuration
c:\\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe is attempting to change or view this
computers internet connection protection settings. To give
c:\\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe permission to edit these settings for as
long as the program is open, click yes.

beneath that are buttons for YES, NO, andMORE INFORMATION.

Mor info yields nothing. No makes it go away for a little while but moments
later it comes back again. Haven't clicked yes.

Didn't click YES b/c 2nd msg came up from Norton Internet Security Program
Control stating High Risk hpqnrs08.exe is attempting to connect to a computer
at 192.168.0.3:427 using port 427. This is high risk b/c not digitally
signed."

My question to anyone reading is can you tell me in really basic terms what
on earth the msgs mean and how do i get rid of them?
Also wondering does anyone know, or know how i can find out, what "address"
is 192.168.0.3 ?
THANK YOU so much

The spoolsv.exe is the printer spool, which you need in order to print.
Most likely, "192.168.0.3" is a computer on your network (you DO have a
network?). Port 427 is used by the spool service to notify computers on
the network that the spool service is available.

The "Internet Sharing Configuration" part of the message pertains to the
Internet Connection Firewall (Windows Firewall). You may be getting this
message because you have both NIS and the Windows Firewall running. Or
you may have turned on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS allows one
computer to share its connection with others). It is best to have only
one firewall running; you should probably just let NIS take care of things.

You can probably allow this activity without any problems. It may just
be a consequence of using that particular all-in-one printer. I have
seen similar posts on HP support forums for that kind of printer.

Gatekeeper,
Thank you so much for responding.

No , I do NOT have a network. At least I sure don't think I do! I have one
laptop and I have one new AIO printer. They connect wirelessly.

Perhaps we have installed/set up the thing improperly.

I think I may just uninstall everything it came with and reinstall it all
and see if this nightmare stops. Stupid dialogue box keeps popping up every
few moments even when I click don't show this agian and NO.

As for having two firewalls, i tried to look for a windows firewall (someone
suggested looking for "firewall.cpl") but no such file seemed to be found?

Argh :(
