Need help troubleshooting a VPN setup

I setup my XP pro machine at home as a VPN host. The machine is behind a
D-Link wireless router connected to verizon DSL. I configured a VPN
connection on my laptop. Using my laptop from the office, I cannot
successfully make a connection to my VPN host at home. I can ping the
routers IP provided by verizon. I forwarded ports 1723, 3389, 500 to my XP
pro machines IP address (from the router setting). What else am I missing.
Help please ...

For PPTP VPN you only need TCP Port 1723 and have GRE Protocol 47 traffic enabled. Some routers call
the later "PPTP Pass Through" or "VPN Pass Through" or automagically enable when TCP Port 1723 is
forwarded...

Check this site or the D-Link support site for further help with GRE Protocol 47 enabling...

When I try to connect to the remote computer via the VPN setup, the status
goes to "Connecting" then "Verifying username and password" then finally an
error saying "Disconnected. Error 721: The remote computer is not
responding".

Definately sounds like PPTP Passthrough/GRE is not enabled on your
DLink router... Take a look around the config and see if you can find
any passthrough settings...
