I thought I was cleaning up my computer from unwanted junk but something got
deleted that shouldn't have and I need it back....The problem is :when I
click "all programs" nothing is there...I tried to do a system restore but
only had one save point to choice from(for some reason) I defrag n do disk
clean-up every day (due to the sims)..But still only had one save
point....Can you please help........Thank-you

When I hit "start" I get the "all programs" icon but when I click on that, I
only get :"Microsoft Update","Set Program Access and Defaults",Windows
Catalog" and "Startup"........I don't have anything else there..

I'm sorry but that link you give me didn't do anything but confuse me even
more.....I went to my Registry but I don't know what to do there....Sorry
about this....

Try this.

0. Make sure that you are logged on as an Administrator
1. Click on the Start button
2. Click on Run
3. Copy the following line and paste it into the Run box:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

4. Click OK
5. Reboot your computer
6. Click the Start button and point to All Programs
7. Post back and tell us if this helped or not.

If for some reason Run is not on your Start menu, you can hold down a
Windows key and at the same time press the R key on your keyboard to open
the Run command. Then you can start at 3. on the list above.

Thank-you for your time so far....But how do you sign in as the
"Administrator" I tried finding that b4 and had no luck......I did sign out
as me,but had no other choices to sign bk in as any 1.........

How to tell if your are an Administrator:
Start | Run | Type: control userpasswords | Click OK |
If it says Computer administrator below you name, you are one.

Or you can double click on User Accounts in the Control Panel.
If it says Computer administrator below you name, you are one.

Ok I did what you said with "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" and nothing happen. But
I did see that when I sign in as a guest everything was there. The main things
that I want from my "all programs" are my "Accessories" n my "Ad-Aware" (cuz
I run it every day) I tried deleting ad-aware( so I could re-load it) from
add/remove but this message came up "Wise Uninstall-could not open
INSTALL.LOG file".......I guess that's another problem.......Thank-you for
your time

There are some things under your user profile that are messed up.

You may run this REG fix to reset the User Shell Folders values to Windows
XP defaults, for the current user profile. Hopefully this will fix the
Start menu problem.

To do that, click this link...
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/shellfolders.reg

When the file Download window pops up, click on the Save button.
When the Save As window pops up, click on Desktop, on the left at the top,
then click on the Save button. That will download shellfolders.reg to your
Desktop.
Switch to your Desktop, find shellfolders.reg, double click it and answer
yes to the import prompt.
Try Start\All Programs and see if you have anything, if not reboot.

The shellfolders.reg file is courtesy of Ramesh.

Post back and if it's fixed we'll quit and if not fixed there a couple of
more things to try.

twice.......(i was just very stressed out and though that someone else could
tell me more.........won't happen again)..........I have another question
should I re-post??

Hey! I am so glad that you got it fixed. :-)

Posting a question here in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general is a good
place to start. There are a lot of knowledgable folks that read these
threads (posts).

Yes. Repost your new question to a new thread.

Keep having fun. :-)
