Ok my problems is pretty agrivating to me. I have no idea why this isn't
working. Must be over my head or something, but here is the deal:

I have two computers:
1) Windows XP Pro w/ sp2
2) Windows Xp Home / sp1

They are connected through a router via ethernet and connect to the
internet through through that router.

Both computers can successfully access the internet with no problem.

What I want to do is be able to access the XP pro computer from the xp
home computer. Then from that I want to progress to using a program
such as PcAnywhere to do some administration.

So what I did first is started the Network wizard to create the
Workgroup for the 2 computers and define the connections.

Both computers are under the workgroup, "MSHOME"

Heres where the problem comes in! When I open the workgroup and click
on the XP Pro computer I get a message that says:

Code:
--------------------
\\PC1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
--------------------

So I went onto that computer and tried to ping the XP home computer. I
could not get anything! It said something like "Ping transfer error
65."

So I pinged the XP pro computer from the XP home computer and this is
what I got:

Code:
--------------------
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for [ipnumber]:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)

Go to your network connection utility and install NWLink IPX/SPX network
protocol & and then you will be able to ping each computer and turn the
firewalls on too.

Is Windows Firewall on the XP Pro computer enabled? If so, did you enable the
File and Printer Sharing exception?

Provide ipconfig information for each computer, as a start.
1) Start - Run - "cmd".
2) Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command window.
3) Open Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is NOT checked!.
4) Open file c:\ipconfig.txt from Notepad.
5) Copy and paste entire contents of the file into your next post.

Go to your network connection utility and install NWLink IPX/SPX network
protocol & and then you will be able to ping each computer and turn the
firewalls on too.

Pinging and the Windows Firewall are both IP components. What relationship is
there between IPX/SPX and either?

This will allow your network and file & print sharing ride on this protocol
and the internet ride on the TCP protocol.

This will allow your network and file & print sharing ride on this protocol
and the internet ride on the TCP protocol.

This will bypass the current IP settings which should have been made in the
first place. And it will create a network with two protocols, needless
complexity, and in many cases, slower response.

Fix the problem. Don't add to it.

So what is going on here?! Any ideas? I really appreciate the help!!

Any chance you're running a software firewall which is blocking access
