I'm trying to create an image to put on multiple machines
for students to use. I am running into difficulty trying
to find where I can disable the option for the students
to run executables on the machine. I would also like to
mangage the security in IE for porn. When in MMC under
the IE Security settings if I up the security I can't
even get to Yahoo. If I drop down the settings I can go
to whitehouse.com, so I'm finding this not very helpful.
Can someone offer assistance or send me a link to a
helpful tutorial?

Thanks!

If you look in Group Policy under user configuration/administrative
templates/system you will see a setting for don't run specicied Windows and
run only allowed Windows applications that you can configure. Keep in mid
that these are not foolproof as in the case where a user renames an
executable. The XP Pro Software Restriction Polices are much more effective
and can be found under computer configuration.

While you may have some success configuring IE to block certain web
material, I think you would be much better off using a internet
applicance/firewall device that can manage such or something like ISA proxy
server. The internet applicance devices can filter based on url's, ip
addresses, or keywords. There are some devices that work with a subscription
service to keep a failry current list of inappropriate sites. Another option
is to have your current firewall configured to just allow certain "approved"
websites based on their ip addresses. --- Steve
