I posted this reply to Jim's question a month ago. Has any one else experienced this? Is there a better answer than system restore?

Regular cleaning of spyware has not resolved having to do the system restore. I have also not been able to determine a decernable pattern to when the browser will stop working.

Thank you in advance for any and all ideas.

My browser (also IE6 plus all service packs) is doing the
same thing. I have found that doing a system restore
utilizing the last automatic system restore point allows
me to then use the browser under my profile. This is
only a temporary fix. The corruption happens again and I
must do another restore. I do not know the cause of the
corruption. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Thanks,
AB

Download the winsock fix tool from the bottom of this
page.
Next time when your browser fails, try repairing your
winsock, it could be a better solution then restoring
your machine

Thank you. I will try that next. Yes, I agree that there has to be a better solution than restore.

Thank you again.

My husband's profile was the latest to have the browser just stop working. I tried the suggestion of using Winsock fix but it actually made the browser slow down without the web pages coming up. Any other suggestions? I had to completely restore the system again three days back to be able to get the browser to access ANY web page.

Thank you for the suggestion. I am still willing to try more suggestions.
