I do not like Outlook Express set up for read receipts as it can be turned
off by the recipient. I tried using MSGTAG but my server using DSL will not
allow the "localhost" settings to replace the SMTP and port settings. So
that leaves...what? Also can anyone tell me if using a web based service
for read receipts slows down the time it takes for an email to reach its
destination? I am using Sympatico.ca on DSL - win98.

Nothing. Being able to turn off read receipts is a function available
to the recepient so unless you have the ability to dictate what
software they're using then you have no chance.

How can any software possibly know when I opened a message? Downloaded
from my ISP maybe, but opened? What if I download it and delete it
without ever opening it?

The website provides no answers to the above.

LOL, this doesn't work with any mail app that doesn't render HTML.

And it definitely doesn't work with Outlook 2003, which specifically
avoids these types of read-receipt apps by not downloading the content
which SentThere needs to verify opening. SentThere is obsolete.

www.msgtag.com and Google for technology. I hate it but I tried it and it
works.

100% of recipients using Office 2003 don't need to know,
as it's disabled by default. ;)

Don't blab it, Brian, they'll think that default is bad and change it.

Sounds like you listened to Mother Nature... ;-)

Yes, but is Chrissy the mother ? Or the father ? :-)

I find that people who talk about opening their blouse etc., as
Chrissy does, are usually born as a male. People born as females
generally don't talk as she (?) does.
